Working under the direction of the Zoning Director, the Development Review Officer provides support for the zoning and design review functions of the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission. 

The main responsibility of this position is to provide technical, and administrative support to the Design Review Board which includes: assisting applicants with the design review process; preparing reports and recommendations on Certificates of Appropriateness; assisting in the administration of Design Review Board meetings including preparation of minutes and agendas; ensuring compliance with the certificate of appropriateness and historic preservation ordinance; and maintaining an understanding of the Secretary of Interior’s Standards regarding historic preservation and all other federal, state and local rules and techniques affecting historic preservation.
In addition to work involving design review and historic preservation, other responsibilities include reviewing zoning applications for compliance with land use regulations and issuing zoning permits; reviewing survey plats for compliance with the applicable regulations; and writing staff reports and zoning verification letters. The position requires the ability to apply knowledge of zoning and design review regulations, perform research and analysis and develop recommendations and reports for the Planning & Zoning Commission. This position interacts with other local, state, and federal agencies and departments as well as the general public. Excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills are mandatory for candidates applying for this position.

Performs other related duties as required.

Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in historic preservation, landscape architecture, or urban/regional planning. Consideration will be given to applicants with two or more years in a related field. Applicants must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud and other graphics software is a plus.  Creative problem solving and presentation skills are highly desirable. The successful candidate will be technically competent, detail oriented, highly organized and should possess strong verbal and written skills to communicate technical information to the public and work effectively with local, state, and federal agencies.
